Through the DAC project, SDHC has been implementing part of its the three-point Action Plan and to develop new, water-efficient landscape standards for its property portfolio.  SDHC committed from the outset to engaging residents, maintenance technicians, and property managers in the re-design process.  In partnership with UCSD’s BRC, SDHC developed and carried out a multi-faceted community engagement plan.   Today, SDHC has new overall landscape standards for all SDHC properties, as well as landscape rehabilitation plans for seven SDHC properties set to undergo renovation in 2020 and 2021.  These new landscape standards, highlighted on this page, include water-efficient irrigation, xeriscape or very-low water use landscape materials, low-impact development (green infrastructure) stormwater management features, and the use of laundry greywater and rainwater harvesting systems.
